Part of the goal of this website has been to make Chinese characters easy to lookup. To that end, using cangjie input codes was a nice means of organizing Chinese characters since not only did if provide a means for grouping characters alphabetically by shape, it also offered a way of inputting them, based on their shape.
In the process of working on an ebook dictionary, a simpler means of looking up Chinese characters was developed. It's called the Easy Lookup system.
The Easy Lookup System is based on 12 Easy Lookup Keys.
It's used in the Chinsym Chinese character dictionary as the main means of looking up Chinese characters.
As an example of how this system works, Chinese symbols whose cangjie code begins with a/日 have these shapes at the top, or left, or top left 日眉巴艮門.
These characters, along with others, are all grouped under the Easy Lookup Key called Box. It's symbol is a box: 囗.
The box Easy lookup Key also includes characters that begin (or are surrounded by) the elements below, which I'll call Key Derivatives or Derivatives:
In turn these Derivatives have variations and the variations are how characters are grouped in each of the Easy Lookup Indexes.
Here are the derivatives listed vertically with their variations included after a dash (if their are variations).
For large groups of characters the Easy Lookup Key can be used to sub sort characters based on their second part.

If you are interested in learning the Cangie system the dictionary does contain cangjie input codes.
It includes over 5000 Traditional Chinese character entries. And character entries are organized based on their cangjie codes.
And it includes two cangjie indexes, one based on the initial elements and one based on final cangjie code elements.
You can find out more about the dictionary here.
